Celebrating the Olympics in Style

With the Olympics in Paris in full swing, Epsom Village captured the excitement with an Olympic-themed midwinter dinner. This popular event, one of the highlights of the village's social calendar, attracted around 50 attendees. Residents mingled at beautifully decorated tables, immersed in conversations and laughter with their friends. It was wonderful to see residents inviting their friends and family from outside the village, as it is very important for Real Living to welcome and include loved ones in our vibrant community.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are taking place from 26 July to 11 August 2024, with the stunning city of Paris set to host 10,500 athletes from 206 nations. A total of 195 athletes will represent New Zealand at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Our residents are enthusiastic supporters of the Games, and the village TV will be broadcasting the main events throughout the competition.

The midwinter menu drew inspiration from various countries competing in the Olympics, featuring Beef Bourguignon from France, Lamb Moussaka from Greece, delightful Tiramisu from Italy, and Apple Streusel from Germany. Chef Nick Seaman once again impressed the residents with his delicious menu.

While enjoying the delicious food, the residents also had the opportunity to test their knowledge of the Olympic Games with their friends. Each table featured Trivial Pursuit-style cards with questions about facts and figures from the Games, including many about famous New Zealand athletes such as Peter Snell, Valerie Adams, and Lisa Carrington. This interactive activity added an extra layer of fun and engagement to the evening, making it a memorable celebration for everyone involved.

Jazz vocalist Reuben Simpson made the evening even more special with his renditions of songs from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Having visited the village several times, Reuben enjoys performing there, knowing the residents love his music and can’t resist getting up to dance. One of the residents' all-time favorites is his performance of "The Girl from Ipanema," so we hope you enjoy this video of the evening, accompanied by this iconic song.
