Supporting our local emerging artistic talent

The “Art in August” exhibition, organised by Warkworth Oaks, was a collaboration between professional artists and students of Mahurangi’s College Art Department. The Expo included stunning pieces from established artists such as Arlin Sukarlin, who creates experimental pieces using acrylic paint on board or canvas. Based in Malborough, Sukarlin has already had two solo and many joint exhibitions over his artistic career, selling more than 44 paintings across these.

Sukarlin’s energetic and colourful paintings were some of the most admired in the exhibition.
For the second year, Auckland-based artist Jadzia Michna-Konigstorfer delighted visitors with her illustrations.

Three talented Warkworth Oaks residents had their paintings included in the exhibition. Anne Galea, who sold two of her works, has been painting avidly for the last 10 years. She paints predominantly in watercolour and has also exhibited with the Watercolour Society in Takapuna and also at Estuary Arts in Orewa.

“Offshore”, by Warkworth Oaks resident Anne Galea, was one of the first paintings to sell on last weekend’s exhibition.
Norma Holdsworth is another Warkworth Oaks resident who sold one of her paintings.

The chimney in the Southgate Room of the Warkworth Hotel was the perfect backdrop for an exhibition of 200 pieces that included many works from students at Mahurangi College. 10% of last weekend’s proceeds will go to the Art Department of the College to support their emerging artists.

The senior students at Mahurangi College selected thought-provoking work from their NCEA assessments.

This is the second year in a row that Warkworth Oaks has organised an Art Expo in collaboration with One Mahurangi Business Association and Warkworth Hotel. Both exhibitions had a great public response, confirming the interest of the local community in supporting our local, established, and emerging artistic talent.
