Celebrating Auckland’s Zoo 100th Anniversary
A trip to the Auckland Zoo is a regular event in Real Living’s trip calendar. This year all the villages have been keen to visit the Zoo and join in their 100th year Anniversary celebrations. Epsom Village was very lucky to pick a very warm day for their trip to the zoo, with lots of animals basking in the morning sun while they were there.
After years of renovations, the Zoo has finally completed its South East Asia Jungle Track. The biggest project in its history, the track features a lowlands habitat for tigers and otters, high canopy primate habitat for orangutans and siamangs, and a swamp forest habitat for Sunda gharial (crocodile) and South East Asian fish species.
Epsom Village residents were very lucky to see the two new Sumatran tigers which arrived at Auckland Zoo in November last year. Ramah (the male tiger) and Zayana (the female) love exploring their habitat and with time the Carnivore Team hopes to be able to pair them with the goal of breeding.
Epsom Village’s residents finished their visit checking the Zoo’s Anniversary exhibition. This dynamic experience offers a rich and colourful journey into the Zoo’s past, present and future - featuring photos, video and fun interactive activities for all ages.
