Dancing under the "old oak tree"

Being a small boutique retirement complex, Epsom Village’s life revolves around its central garden. The residents love gathering around the “old oak tree” and contemplating the goldfish pond, specially during the late summer afternoons. That’s why the Village Manager, Lillian Fletcher, decided to celebrate a Garden Party with Live Music in this breath-taking scenery.

The Garden Party was organised to mark the birthdays that fell into the 2021 lockdown (September, October and November) and couldn’t be celebrated because of Covid. The birthday residents and their neighbours were entertained by the guitar and flute duet “Silver and Strings”.

It was a hot summer afternoon so the residents really appreciated the non-alcoholic fruity punch that was offered. After some relaxing melodies, Silver and Strings decided to try some more swinging tunes to tempt the residents. The dancing mood quickly spread around and very soon most of the residents hit the dance floor, or in this case the circle around the oak tree.

The residents were very pleased with this event. Some residents qualified it as “one of the best events they’ve ever had” and “a birthday celebration not to be forgotten”. It certainly was, just look at the picture of all residents standing up and signing along to Abba’s Dancing Queen at the end of the soiree.

"I feel very privileged"

"I feel very privileged living at Pakuranga Park because you can't get anything like this in Auckland," says Colleen, who moved to the village two years ago. With her love of hobbies and traveling in her motorhome, she needed plenty of space—and found it in one of the village’s spacious villas. For those seeking a retirement village that offers safety, companionship, and the freedom to pursue their passions, Pakuranga Park is the perfect choice.
