Bowls is a social sport and a gentle way to get active
Pakuranga Park Bowling Club has around 40 members who know everything about the benefits of this social sport. They’re not only keeping active and healthy by playing bowls on average three times per week, but they also have lots of fun in the meantime.
Weather permitting, the residents play bowls on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and sometimes they compete with other clubs from around Auckland. Once a month they hold a mini tournament and that’s when they all look spectacular dressed in their white uniforms.
The village’s Bowling Club has been running for more than 25 years and Brian Line has been his Chairman for the past seven years. He loves bowling and particularly the special days, for example when they compete against the staff -including the village’s manager!
If you ask him who tends to win when the residents play against the staff, he bursts into laughter before replying: “Well, I think we’ve got the Cup!”
Playing bowls has many benefits such as vascular health and muscle strengthening. But the biggest merit of this sport is that like-minded people will get together to enjoy competition, camaraderie, and some good physical activity. Are you one of them?
